BBO Match Setup
This page explains how to create a match on Bridgebase Online. This is something that always causes problems for people the first few times they do it, so hopefully this will make life a little simpler for you. Let's suppose we are wanting to create a match between two teams, The Wilted Flowers vs The Felines.
| The Wilted Flowers | The Felines | |
|---|---|---|
| Lily Rose |
Cougar Lion |
|
| Dandelion Poppy |
Jaguar Leopard |
- When: Tables can start to be set as soon as all members of both teams are present.
- Who: One team will assigned to set the table, the other team to assist with their player's names and partnerships. The Home Team Captain will normally set the match. The suggestion is that beforehand each of the Captains sets the opposing Captain as a "friend" to make chatting easier. The Away Captain simply gives details of their pairs to the home Captain once all their players are present and the Home Captain then creates the match.
- It doesn't have to be the Home Captain who sets the match, or indeed either of the Captains, but make sure beforehand that it is agreed between the two Teams who is going to set the Match and you know who that is.
- Where: From the BBO Home Screen click on <Click to Play or Watch Bridge>, and then <Teams Matches>, and lastly on <Create Team Match>
- Creating the Match: The "Create Team Match" window shown will be displayed, and the settings to use are then as follows:
Settings on the left-hand side:
- Name of Tourney:
"IAC Team Match Challenge" - Description:
"Series" - Director:
BBO_IAC or BBO_IAC~<Your ID>. You must include BBO_IAC here so that we can help if problems arise. - Boards to Play:
12 - Scoring:
IMPs - Barometer:
Leave unchecked - Kibitzers:
Allow Silent - UNDOs:
Leave blank (Undos are not allowed). - Kibitz Partner when Dummy:
Leave checked.
- Name of Tourney:
- The next part is really crucial:
Team Details on the right-hand side:- Team 1:
The Wilted Flowers - The Wilted Flowers:
All members of The Wilted Flowers go into the N/S/W/E boxes for Team 1. You are showing the Teams here, not the way the players will be sat at the Tables. So put Lily and Rose sitting N/S and Dandelion and Poppy Sitting E/W in the Team 1 Area. - Team 2:
The Felines - The Felines:
All members of The Felines go into the N/S/W/E boxes for Team 2. You are showing the Teams here, not the way the players will be sat at the Tables. So put Cougar and Lion sitting N/S and Jaguar and Leopard Sitting E/W in the Team 2 Area. - A Short-cut:
If you have any of the players in the match visible in your view of people online on BBO (ie: in the Main BBO Window) you can assign them to the match simply by right-clicking on their name, selecting "Assign <Nickname> to" and then selecting the appropriate position for them. If you restrict your view of the Lobby to your Friends and add all players in the match to your Friends List, then this is an easy way to assign positions without the possibility of spelling someone's name wrong. It does require a bit of preparation, though.
- Team 1:
The Result: Your Settings window should now look something like this:- Checklist:
- Remember: Players for Team 1 all go into the area for Team 1 and those for Team 2 all go into the area for Team 2.
- Partnerships: Make sure you put the N/S and E/W Partnerships as they've been specified to you, particularly where the opposing team are concerned.
- Double check: Double check all of the settings in the Create Match window before clicking on <Create Match>.
- What Happens Now?: When you click on <Create Match>, the "Create Match" window stays in view just the same. You are told the Match Number and that invitations are being sent out to the players. You will be told as each player accepts the match. When all of the players have accepted everyone is whisked away and the match commences. Teams Captains should ensure that their players know what to expect and to accept the invitations when BBO sends them.
- Note: It is very important that you do not manually close the "Create Match" Window. It will close of its own accord when the match commences. If there is a problem with the pairings or one of the players doesn't accept the match (a misclick, perhaps) it is now a simple matter to redit the settings/players and/or to click on <Create Match> again. If you have closed the "Create Match" window then you have to go through the whole setup process from scratch again.

Using the Web Client
When using the web client, things look a little different, but the main difference is in how to get to the "Create a Team match"
facility. Once you reach the facility, the form is actually simpler than the one on the Flash client:
Firstly you need to return to the Home page for the Web Client and click on the "List All Tables" Button.
This will put up another small menu one of the options in which is "Team Matches".
When you click on that a list of all the current TM's running is
displayed.

If you look at the lower left-hand corner of the BBO window you'll now see a button labelled "Create Team Match". Click on that and the following window is displayed:
Although this form looks slightly different from the one displayed above for the Flash client, the options are almost identical.
Just follow the sense of the instructions given above, remembering to Title the Match "IAC Teams Series Challenge" and to put the 2 Team Names in the Description.
Number of Boards is 12 and "Allow Kibitzers to chat with players", "Allow undo requests", and "Barometer Scoring" should all be un-checked.
Fill in the Team names and the players and then simply click on "Create Team Match". Don't forget that you need to show BBO_IAC as a Director for the match.
