Photo Gallery

A selection of my favourite photos. Most of these were taken by me, but some by Naomi or friends (eg: photos in which I appear).

Most of my work can be seen on my Flickr Photostream at higher resolutions than used here.
Landscapes have always been my first love when it comes to Photography. I never cease to be completely blown away by the beauty, grandeur and glory of God's creation and I've been very lucky to have lived in or visited a wide variety of places in the UK, Europe (and beyond) that have allowed me to get a lot of good pictures.

Praia San Juan, Algarve (21 April 2004)

April 2005. The Algarve is renowned for its spectacular beaches and rock formations. This one is one of the loveliest we found with secluded caves and passages between the rocks and great snorkelling.

The Copper Mine, Anglesey (1)

The abandoned copper mine near Amlwch on Anglesey is quite extraordinary just after it has rained and the water brings out all the colours in the rocks and along with the ground cover producing an almost surreal landscape.

North Stack, Holy Island

One of my favourite spots on Anglesey, North Stack lighthouse is a spectacular walk down from the clifftop (and a tough climb back). We caught this on a flat calm day but are determined to get back there during a storm!

El Tiede, Tenerife (30 September 2003)

It's difficult to get away from El Tiede on Tenerife (not that you'd want to) and it dominates the whole western half of the island. Here seen from the top of the Orotava valley through the pines. The top of the clouds were already several hundred feet below us.

El Tiede in Winter (21 February 2004)

Actually, this was in late spring, but the locals were still skiing and snowboarding up here at the time. The area of rocks on the right is Los Roches, and the area between where I was standing and the cone of the volcano is a broad lava-field resembling a moonscape.

Cloudburst over Arran (05 July 2014)

This shot was definitely a case of being in the right place at the right time: Walking our dogs on Ardrossan North Beach we were lucky to witness this cloudburst over Arran with strong sunlight filtering through the rain. The light contrast was very high so I hurriedly set up the camera to do 5 bracketed shots, and managed to hold the camera still enough for that to succeed.

Dalry Glen, near Pedens Point (21 July 2014)

I risked life and limb to get this 30 second exposure: I had to balance myself on slippery rocks and tripod was in the middle of this stream. Moreover there was a 20' high waterfall only a couple of feet behind me, and if that wasn't enough, I had to accomplish setting up and taking the shot whilst trying to control a Doberman and a standard poodle, both of whom were really wanting to go for a paddle!

Kyleakin Rainbow (06 October 2014)

In the right place at the right time. We'd had a disappointing day trying to find the Bealach Na Ba bathed in sunlight (it was raining!), and decided to take a look around Kyleakin instead. We walked around towards the Castle but couldn't get all the way round, made it back to the car just in time to avoid a huge squall rolling in from the sea. We drove around to the old ferry slipway as the black clouds move up Loch Alsh and Loch Duich and just then a lovely bit of evening sunlight burst through and we were treated to this awesome rainbow. 5 minutes later, as the rainbow was fading, the slipway was swarmed under by photographers crawling out of the woodwork, but they'd all missed the best of it :).
